For years now, Melos's cable compounds for the wire and cable industry have been successfully used all over the world for the widest possible range of cable constructions. And a large proportion of the 20,000 metric tons of cable compounds produced every year are elastomer-based cable bedding / filling compounds.
Melos is one of the leading manufacturers of halogen-free cable compounds, developing formulations for compounds in the following individual application areas within the wire and cable industry:
High voltage
Medium voltage
Low voltage / Installation cables
Special compounds: peroxide and silane crosslinkeable
The right formulation for every cable Our cable compounds are made to customer-specific formulations in order to provide the hardness, handling viscosity and filler level required by the cable construction and the special features of the extrusion line. Different raw materials are used depending on the intended field of use: EPR (EPDM), butyl, polyolefines. Our cable compounds fulfil country-specific and customer-specific specifications such as BS (6724, 7870) , DIN/VDE, etc..
Flame-retardant and non-flame-retardant halogen free bedding compounds for the cable and wire industry are available for numerous different combinations of materials. And if desired our cable compounds can be formulated so that the product can be wound on a drum.
Melos Cable Compounds
For different combinations of the following materials:
Insulation:
PVC, PE, PP, XLPE, HFFR, ...
Sheathing:
PVC, PE, XLPE, HFFR, …
Economic to process – convenient to use Our cable bedding compounds offer decisive advantages and fulfil important tasks
Tasks fulfilled by elastomer-based bedding compounds:
Making the cable round.
Filling the gaps between insulation and sheathing.
Embedding screening wires, tapes, etc.
Protecting cables from mechanical damage, particularly while they are being laid in cable channels
Sealing cables against penetration by water.
Advantages of elastomer-based bedding compounds:
Halogen-free and environment-friendly.
Can be extruded at low temperatures using standard equipment.
Peeling effect and banana effect simplify stripping the cable for electrical installations.
For suitably composed cables the barrier properties of Melos's bedding compounds prevent interference (migration) between the sheathing and the insulation compound.
The use of suitable flame-retardant bedding compounds has a positive influence on the fire behaviour of the entire cable construction.
