June 2011 | Klosterpforte Cup 2011 – one more time!

Zoom

A tradition that is maintained without degrading into routine must be truly alive, particularly when it’s motivated by a worthy cause.

As in previous years, the 9th Klosterpforte Cup from 2-3 October 2011 at Klosterpforte in Marienfeld will be launched under the slogan “Kick for Kids”.

Anyone who encountered the freshness and enthusiasm of this tournament in previous years will already be keenly anticipating the next one.

Melos GmbH, the tournament’s principal sponsor, and Thomas Helmer, its patron, are again looking forward to close cooperation with the other co-organisers and supporters. The primary objective is to be able to use the net proceeds to support hospitals and clinics, and footballers and football fans will be converging on the sports field of Hotel Klosterpforte on the Day of German Unity to realise this charitable initiative.

The popular “Players Night” will take place as usual beforehand in the Klosterkeller, beginning at 7pm with the all-important tournament draw. The show programme hosted by Wolf-Dieter Poschmann will be attended by celebrities from the fields of sport, commerce and politics. Snacks, music and a relaxed atmosphere on the eve of the tournament will help prepare the participants for the keenly fought competition they can expect on the Monday, from 10 am to 5 pm.

The title holders Melos will again have their work cut out defending it against 22 highly motivated teams from the East Westphalia League plus ten tradition teams. The starting positions for the current year are all already allocated. From autumn 2011, any interested teams will be able to apply for the next tournament. Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Hamburger SV, Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Mönchengladbach, VFL Bochum, Arminia Bielefeld, Alemannia Aachen, Rot-Weiß Essen and 1 FC Cologne will all be there with their former League professionals. There will also be massive rivalry for the top scorer’s title and the innovation prize for the most creative contribution, won last year by the cheerleaders from Deutsche Post.

But it isn’t only the adults who want to show that they can keep the ball rolling. The Junior Cup for 11 to 13-year-olds and the Vitalis Cup for 7 to 8 year-olds each offer ten teams the best possible platform for competing with one another, sharing their sporting enjoyment and demonstrating that they also have the seeds of greatness. Melos’s artificial turf pitch and the grass pitch at Klosterpforte are already ready for the fray.

Alongside the actual matches there will also be a variety of sports and games available for the whole family. We are expecting parents and friends, plus anyone who simply enjoys the football experience. Tomorrow’s talent can demonstrate their technique on the “Socc-out Court”. Spent calories can be replenished at the nearby grills and drinks stalls or the coffee bar in the tournament grounds.

So nothing now stands in the way of a successful tournament when the call goes out to “Kick for Kids”!
